EuroAm’s
initial findings encouraged it to do extensive research involving
numerous building systems from as far afield as North and South
America, and Europe where large scale housing projects are
undertaken. The research identified various criteria regarding
mass-housing:
-
The
house has to be affordable
-
The
house must meet a minimum quality criteria
-
The
project ought to create employment in the form of a "self
help" programme
-
The
system used must be very labour intensive, but not skills
intensive
-
The
rate of production, although using unskilled labour, must be
very high, and
-
There
should be skills transfer
With
the above criteria in mind, a couple of systems were identified
and, depending on the local conditions, the suitability of a
system can be agreed upon. An example of a system is the Haener
Block®.
